Explosion and air defense activity reported in Karaj, Iran. Witnesses also observed low-flying fighter jets over the area.
Shortly before 9 PM local time, residents of Karaj reported a loud explosion followed by a fire at a power station.
Iranian local sources claim that air defense systems in western Tehran were activated moments after the explosion, with multiple interceptor rounds reportedly fired. Witnesses also observed low-flying fighter jets over the area.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the target may have been a key logistics base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), known as Shokht-e-Pur, located near the power facility.
Simultaneously, Iranian media reported a minor earthquake in the same area at a depth of 8 km, though the connection between the two incidents remains unclear.
The Iranian government has not issued an official statement. The cause of the explosion, and whether it was an accident, a foreign strike, or sabotage, is still unknown. Authorities are expected to investigate.
