A major US-Israel partnership is bringing advanced Israeli desalination technology to Texas as American officials seek solutions to growing water shortages in the southern United States.
Israeli water technology company IDE Technologies and US Desalination LLC have officially formed a joint venture called RGV-Desal LLC to develop a massive seawater desalination facility in the Rio Grande Valley region of South Texas.
The project, estimated to cost approximately $1 billion, is planned near South Padre Island and is expected to initially produce up to 50 million gallons of drinking water per day.
The desalination plant will use advanced Israeli technology developed by IDE Technologies — one of the world’s leading desalination companies and a key player behind Israel’s transformation into a global water technology powerhouse.
