Turkey rightfully takes pride in its bustling drone industry, which has made it one of the world’s top arms exporters.
President Erdoğan is deeply involved in this field and often boasts about it. But following an unusual incident last week, his silence speaks volumes: an advanced Anka-3 drone crashed during a test flight near populated areas in the Konya region.
The Anka-3 is Turkey’s most advanced stealth drone, developed by its state aerospace industry.
“During a test flight in Konya, the Anka-3 hit the ground while under control,” said one of Ankara’s major defense companies, carefully avoiding the word “crash.” Still, it’s clear that at the very least, a serious malfunction forced an emergency landing.
