Demonstrations across northern #Syria showed solidarity with southern revolutionary protests, spanning Marea, Afrin, Al-Bab, Al-Atareb where demonstrators raised the Druze flag in solidarity, Azaz, Jisr Al-Shugur, Darkush, and Tal Abayd.
SDF-held areas, including Al-Izba and Al-Tabqa, joined in support; As-Suwayda residents gathered at the monument of Sultan Pasha al-Atrash, and at the provincial capital’s central square flying the Syrian Revolutionary flag; Daraa witnessed protests urging regime overthrow, and Nawa saw the Syrian Revolutionary flag flown on the Al-Omari mosque minaret.
Demonstrations against Assad are growing in the last week. They started with the Druze in the south of the country, but on Friday were held nation-wide.
The Assad regime is under huge pressure.
NEWSRAEL: A very interesting Israeli point can be seen in the Druze demonstrations. The Druze are typically very loyal to whoever rules in their country of residence.
For instance, the Druze in Israel who serve in the IDF, or the Druze in Lebanon. If the Druze in Syria are against the ruling Assad regime, this is a very serious event.
The Israeli tie comes to the Druze in the Golan Heights. They have always kept their loyalty to Syria, went to university there and married among the Druze in Syria.
The question now will be how the Druze in the Golan will react to the Druze (who they are so close to) demonstrating against Assad.
