Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and SpearUAV have announced a strategic partnership to develop Iron Wasp, a compact drone-based interceptor designed to defend maneuvering ground forces against drones, loitering munitions and other aerial threats.
Based on SpearUAV’s Viper technology, Iron Wasp will be launched from a small multi-canister system mounted directly on armored vehicles. It is designed to detect, identify and intercept fast-moving, low-signature threats while the vehicle remains in motion.
The companies say the system requires minimal preparation and resources, allowing frontline troops to respond rapidly without operating complex equipment. It can also connect with existing sensors and battlefield systems according to operational requirements.
Iron Wasp will add another platform-level layer to Rafael’s broader defense network, which includes Trophy, Drone Dome, Samson and advanced laser systems.
