Iran International reported on Tuesday that, after an extensive verification process, it has concluded that at least 12,000 people have been killed so far in Iran's ongoing nationwide protests—primarily during two consecutive nights of extreme violence.
The outlet reached this assessment by cross-referencing overlapping accounts and evidence from diverse sources, including insiders reportedly close to Iran's Supreme National Security Council and presidential office, as well as members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in multiple cities. It also drew on testimonies from eyewitnesses, families of victims, medical personnel, and hospital-linked information.
The report identifies Thursday and Friday as the deadliest period, describing the events as unprecedented in scale, geographic reach, and brutality within Iran's modern history.
Those killed were overwhelmingly civilians, many under the age of 30.
