Turkey is no longer treating northern Cyprus merely as a frozen diplomatic dispute. A new agreement reported by Nordic Monitor shows that Ankara is increasingly presenting the Turkish-controlled north of the island as a strategic front line in the eastern Mediterranean.
THE NORDIC MONITOR -- According to the report, Turkey links northern Cyprus, which it occupies, to a much wider arena of conflict stretching from Gaza and the Gulf to the Caucasus, Central Asia and the eastern Mediterranean.
This reflects a major shift: Cyprus is being framed not only as a Turkish national cause, but as a military and geopolitical platform in a region where Israel, Greece and Cyprus are expanding cooperation.
This comes as tensions between Turkey and Israel continue to rise. Ankara has repeatedly attacked Israel diplomatically, while Israel, Greece and Cyprus have deepened defense cooperation, including joint military planning and exercises in the eastern Mediterranean.
