Three US service members were killed and five others were seriously wounded during Operation Epic Fury, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Sunday morning, in one of the deadliest incidents for American forces in the current Iran-related campaign.
According to CENTCOM, several additional personnel sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions. Those troops are currently being treated and are expected to return to duty. Officials emphasized that the situation remains fluid and said the identities of the fallen will not be released until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified.
US forces have been operating across the region amid heightened tensions with Iran, with operations aimed at countering threats to American personnel and regional stability. Further details about the circumstances of the attack have not yet been made public.
