Moderates in Hezbollah oppose extremists: “We will not be dragged into an internal Lebanese conflict”
Hezbollah’s Executive Council head, Ali Daamoush, declared Friday that the organization would not be drawn into domestic conflict, regardless of the level of provocation. He emphasized that the party’s leadership is “working tirelessly to suppress internal strife and preserve civilian peace.”
In a televised address, Daamoush criticized those he described as “self-proclaimed defenders of sovereignty,” accusing them of trying to push the army into confrontation with “the resistance and its supporters.” He stressed that “no one will be able to break or subdue the resistance,” claiming that all attempts to weaken it have failed.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam reaffirmed last week that there is “no alternative to one army and one law” that applies equally to all citizens. Salam described the state’s control over arms as “a national, irreversible choice,” while President Joseph Aoun cautioned that using force to impose disarmament “cannot happen at this time.”
