A new Canary Mission report warns that NYC-DSA is using New York as the model for a national political takeover.
The report argues that the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America is no longer just an activist group or a fringe protest movement. It is building a disciplined political machine designed to capture Democratic seats from within and then export the model across the country.
According to the report, NYC-DSA’s strategy was energized by the rise of Zohran Mamdani and is now focused on creating “a thousand Zohrans” — candidates who run as anti-establishment outsiders while operating as part of an ideological bloc.
The report says the organization uses a coordinated “inside-outside” strategy: activists pressure from the street, while elected officials work from inside government. DSA-backed politicians are expected to align with the movement, attend coordination meetings, and act together as a bloc rather than as independent representatives.
