Former Iranian Ambassador to Qatar Abdollah Sohrabi asserted that Qatar, Oman, and other regional countries were historically part of Iran, emphasizing that Tehran “loves them all” because of these ties.
In an interview aired on IRINN TV (Iran) on April 13, 2026, Sohrabi framed these nations as naturally aligned with Iran, despite their current political independence.
He further revealed a conversation with a former Emir of Qatar, claiming the Gulf state depends heavily on balancing relations between Iran and the US. According to Sohrabi, the Emir warned that if Qatar were to lose backing from either side, it would be left “hanging in the air.” He also suggested that Qatar’s policies are shaped by external pressure, even when they diverge from Iran’s expectations.
