The “horseshoe effect” is not just a theory—it is visible every day in the real world. While the extreme left and extreme right claim to be bitter enemies, on some of the most important global issues, they often sound nearly identical.
Take Israel and the Jewish people. From radical activists on the left to voices on the far right, the language increasingly overlaps: portraying Israel as uniquely evil, spreading conspiracy theories about Jewish influence, and at times even justifying violence. Different slogans—same message.
It doesn’t stop there.
On conspiracy theories, both extremes thrive on the belief that shadowy elites control governments, media, and global events. Facts are replaced with suspicion, and complex realities are reduced to simple, emotionally charged narratives.
