Russian sources say that Russia is concerned about Turkey’s growing involvement in Syria, and fears that Turkey is about to take over parts of the country that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sees as part of the Ottoman Empire – just as Turkey took over the western part of Libya.
Turkey’s close ties to the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham organization led by Abu Muhammad al-Julani, which overthrew the Bashar al-Assad regime, allow Turkey to increase its involvement in Syria towards realizing its ambitions to restore Turkish control over Syria, as it had during the Ottoman Empire.
Western intelligence sources say that Turkey is deeply involved in what is happening in Syria, and has big plans to increase its influence. According to the same sources, these are Turkey’s plans at this stage:
