In Libya, the massive damages left by storm Daniel that hit the east of the country are becoming clear.
The city of Derna was designated as a disaster area and the number of dead there reaches about 5,800 with thousands still missing. In addition to Darna, other cities in the region were affected, and therefore the estimate published this morning by the Libyan Minister of Health, according to which the number of dead will reach 10,000, is probably an underestimate.
The major damage in the city of Derna was caused by flooding after two dams collapsed. According to sources in Libya, five entire neighborhoods were washed away by the current.
Ham Shakiwat, the Minister of Civil Aviation in the Government of Eastern Libya, stated a little while ago that the city of Derna was currently wiped out by the severe floods. He stated "the bodies are everywhere". Indeed, from the video posted here, you can see that his description is accurate.
Meanwhile Libya, unlike its neighbor Morocco, is asking for international aid given the scale of the disaster. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority has announced that at least nine Palestinians have died in floods in Libya, although there is an unknown number of missing persons.
