New figures show a significant rise in early 2026 revenue, but the canal is still far from fully recovering after two years of disruption in the Red Sea.
According to Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, revenues from the start of 2026 through February 8 reached $449 million — compared to $368 million during the same period in 2025, marking an increase of approximately 22%.
Traffic indicators also show improvement. A total of 1,315 vessels transited the canal, up from 1,243 during the same period last year. Net tonnage climbed to 56 million tons, compared to 47 million tons in early 2025.
At first glance, the data points to a positive trend. However, the broader picture tells a more complex story.
