OTTAWA, Canada - Justin Trudeau's government is in jeopardy after Jagmeet Singh, leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP), announced plans to introduce a motion of non-confidence during the next parliamentary session starting January 27.
If supported by other major opposition parties, this could force Trudeau's administration to resign and trigger an election shortly after Donald Trump’s expected return to power in the U.S.
Trudeau's Liberal Party, lacking a House majority, has relied on NDP backing since a cooperation agreement was reached in March 2022.
Singh, who withdrew support in September, stated, “The Liberals don’t deserve another chance.” His announcement came just before Trudeau revealed Cabinet changes following the surprising resignation of finance minister Chrystia Freeland.
