Italian political analyst Umberto de Giovangeli said that the reasons that motivated Moscow to cooperate with Tehran more than ever were Turkey's conflict in Syria and the Caucasus.
As for the Syrian issue, the two countries openly supported the dictatorial regime of Bashar al-Assad, while at the same time cooperating to deal with the presence of jihadist terrorism.
He went on to say that the Caucasus plays a very important role for Russia in the geopolitical context, so the alliance between Turkey and Azerbaijan is very suspicious in the eyes of Moscow, especially since Turkey remains a vital member of NATO.
The Italian analyst has concluded that one of the reasons for the close cooperation between Iran and Russia is to confront American influence in the Eurasian space, and Russia also needs an alliance with Iran to limit China's demonstration of its power through the new Silk Road.
