A viral post from eastern Libya has reignited debate over whether Gazans could be resettled in Libya, following unverified claims about statements attributed to the Palestinian ambassador in Tripoli.
In the past 24 hours, Libyan social media has been dominated by an angry post from Mustafa Azkaiba, a resident of Derna. In his post, Azkaiba accuses the Palestinian ambassador in Tripoli of allegedly calling for Libya to receive “migrants from Gaza,” in coordination with the Government of National Unity led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, which is widely seen as aligned with Qatar and Turkey.
Azkaiba strongly rejects the idea, arguing that Libya should not serve as a settlement destination or a testing ground for solutions to external conflicts. His post includes harsh language directed at the ambassador and claims that the arrival of Gazans could destabilize Libya and inflame internal tensions.
He further alleges that the ambassador threatened to pursue or arrest activists in western Libya who oppose the reported resettlement initiative, describing it as blatant interference in Libya’s internal affairs and a violation of free expression.
