Col. (res.) Dr. Jacques Neriah warns that Hezbollah’s threats against Lebanon’s president Aoun are not mere rhetoric, but a real and immediate danger.
According to him, Hezbollah has a long history of eliminating political opponents, and is now signaling that even the country’s leadership is not immune if it deviates from the “resistance” line. Any move toward engagement or understanding with Israel, he warns, could put the president directly in harm’s way.
Neriah describes Lebanon as a “powder keg,” with Hezbollah actively working to sabotage any attempt at reaching an arrangement with Israel in order to preserve its military and political dominance.
He further stressed that under current conditions, any talk of disarming Hezbollah or reaching a stable agreement is unrealistic. “Hezbollah’s weapons are aimed both inward and outward,” he said, “and therefore the organization will not give them up.”
