Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado praised President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, saying their Venezuela policy has created a real opening for democratic change in the country.
Speaking to Newsmax, Machado said the Trump administration’s pressure campaign has changed the balance inside Venezuela and given new strength to those fighting the socialist regime. She said Venezuelans now see a serious chance to restore freedom after years of dictatorship, corruption and repression.
Machado has become one of the central figures of Venezuela’s opposition and has continued to push for free elections, the release of political prisoners and the return of exiled Venezuelans. Her comments come as the political future of Venezuela remains uncertain, with opposition forces demanding a real transition and the regime still trying to hold on to power.
She said US leadership is critical, especially at a time when Venezuela’s crisis affects the entire region through mass migration, organized crime and the influence of hostile foreign powers.
