The US military, led by the US Coast Guard, has launched an operation to take control of the rogue oil tanker Marinera in the Atlantic Ocean, after the vessel escaped quarantine in Venezuela and continued operating under official Russian sponsorship.
According to a Reuters report, the tanker had previously evaded enforcement efforts and was being tracked as part of a broader sanctions-evasion network.
At the same time, the US Coast Guard initiated a second, parallel operation to seize another vessel linked to the same sanctions-busting activity in the “waters of Latin America,” underscoring a coordinated and escalating US maritime enforcement effort against rogue shipping tied to hostile regimes.
