A New York-based Muslim Brotherhood-linked activist, Bahgat Saber, issued threats against Egyptian Coptic priest Zakaria Botros and Egyptian-American political analyst Magdi Khalil, declaring that the punishment for insulting the Prophet Muhammad is beheading.
In a video posted online, Saber used explicit language while attacking Botros—known for his criticism of Islam—and extended his threats to Khalil as well. He also suggested that if Botros were in the United States, he would physically assault him.
NEWSRAEL: WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT
This incident highlights the spread of extremist Islamist rhetoric beyond the Middle East and into Western societies. Open threats of violence, including calls for beheading, demonstrate how radical ideologies continue to incite hatred and intimidation—even in countries with strong protections for free speech. The targeting of Christian figures and critics of Islam underscores the ongoing danger faced by minorities and dissidents. It also raises serious concerns about the influence of extremist networks and the need for authorities to address incitement before it translates into real-world violence.
