President Donald Trump announced that US and Nigerian forces successfully eliminated Abu Bilal al-Minouki, the ISIS commander in Nigeria and reportedly the second most senior ISIS figure worldwide.

According to Trump’s statement on Truth Social, the covert operation followed a prolonged intelligence tracking effort and was carried out through close cooperation between American and Nigerian military and intelligence forces operating in Africa.

Trump described al-Minouki as “the most active terrorist in the world,” saying the ISIS leader had attempted to hide across Africa before ultimately being located and eliminated in Nigeria.
