Jerusalem, 28 February, 2023 (TPS) -- For the first time, the Ministry of Health and the Planning Administration released a strategic national outline plan for health institutions.
The plan includes the establishment of new general hospitals in Karmiel, Kiryat Gat, Hod Hasharon, Kiryat Ata, Beit Shemesh, Netanya, Modi’in, Beer Sheva and Harish, as well as an expansion of the Ichilov Hospital.
Also, 20 geriatric institutions will be established in Jerusalem, Acre, Migdal Hamek and Netivot.
5 rehabilitation hospitals will be established in Karmiel and Be’er Sheva among others, and 11 medical emergency centers will be established in Katzrin, Kiryat Shmona and Mitzpe Ramon in the Negev and other places too.
The population of Israel is expected to grow to about 15 million people in the target year of 2050, and the share of the population of elderly people will increase significantly.
The plan presents the spatial layout and marks the areas required for the development of the hospitalization system in the country, with the aim of meeting the needs of the projected population, including geriatric, psychiatric and rehabilitation hospitalization services.
Also, the plan incorporates principles such as reducing spatial inequality in access to health services, a significant transition of providing services from hospitals to the community (to health insurance funds and home hospitalization) and the need to adapt the system to future changes.
