Jerusalem, 21 September, 2023 (TPS) -- The Magistrate’s Court in Be’er Sheva sentenced Shalu Saban, an officer from the Border Police who was convicted based on his confession of passing on confidential police information to major criminals, to five months of community service, probation and a fine.
Saban admitted to passing to senior criminal elements in the south of the country, on several occasions and at different times, confidential information about operational activities of police units to which he was attached. This even included information about future searches and arrests, and this with the aim of thwarting police activity.
In one of the cases, as part of a secret police activity he received a confidential document that included a list of people who are “targets of activity” of the police and information about police activities that are to be carried out regarding them. The accused transferred, through Instagram, the document and information to the criminal elements and then deleted the correspondence. Later in the day, the defendant photographed the organization of the police forces, including the license numbers of the police vehicles, in preparation for the arrest of one of the “targets of the activity” and transferred, via Instagram, the photo to one of those criminal elements.
Saban was convicted of the crimes of disclosure in breach of duty, obstruction of justice and fraud and breach of trust.
