Under the proposal, washing machines, freezers, refrigerators, etc. will be subject to a new consumption tax. Authorities say the new tax is in line with environmental protection and the need to reduce energy consumption.

However, the Moroccan public believes less in the intention to protect the environment and believes that this is intended to reduce the deficit which stands at over 6%.
