ISIS is once again showing signs of renewed activity across Syria, prompting coordinated counterterrorism efforts by the United States, Iraq, and Israel.
Over the weekend, Syrian media reported that an IDF force extracted a senior ISIS operative from inside Syrian territory and transferred him to Israel for interrogation.
The targeted commando operation, focused on ISIS activity in Syria in general and near Israel’s Golan border in particular, signals growing concern among regional and international actors seeking to stabilize the area.
During the past week, Syrian authorities announced a series of security raids in Damascus, Idlib, Aleppo, and the Syrian desert. These operations led to the arrest of ISIS-linked cells and the seizure of weapons, suicide drones, explosive belts, and other materials. The raids coincided with deadly attacks attributed to ISIS, including assaults on security patrols in Idlib and the “Palmyra attack,” in which two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter were killed.
