Six years ago, more than 1.2 million immigrants from many parts of the world fled to Europe, traveling hundreds or thousands of miles in search of new life, leaving the continent in deep political crisis.
Europe is about to face such a crisis again, with millions of Afghans trying to flee the Taliban, according to the Voice of America website.
Some European leaders have expressed concern in recent days. In a televised speech on August 16, French President Emmanuel Macron said that "dealing with Taliban fugitives requires an organized and fair international effort." He added that "Europe alone cannot bear the consequences of the current situation."
In Germany, the general secretary of the ruling Christian Democratic Party told NTV: "It is clear to us that we must not repeat 2015… We will not be able to resolve the issue of Afghanistan by migrating to Germany."
