Vice President Kamala Harris has taken a lead over former President Donald Trump in most recent presidential polls, but a new survey shows that Democrats are dealing with several of the same issues they were when President Joe Biden was the presumed nominee.
THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER -- An ABC News-Washington Post-Ipsos poll released on Sunday shows Harris leading Trump among registered voters 49%-45%, but it also shows Harris trailing Trump on trust with pivotal topics such as the economy and immigration.
Trump holds a 9% lead over Harris in handling the economy, 46%-37%, while with immigration, Trump holds a 10% advantage over Harris, 46%-36%. Both margins are similar to when Biden was the presumptive nominee in July, according to the pollster.
Harris does have an edge over Trump on healthcare, gun violence, and abortion, all areas Biden also had an advantage over Trump in the July poll.
Two areas that Harris has recently focused on still show Trump with an edge: inflation and crime. Harris has leaned into her time as San Francisco district attorney and California attorney general to convey a tough on crime attitude, but she trails Trump on the matter by 3%.
