A dramatic power struggle is unfolding inside Iran’s ruling elite, as supporters of hardline figure Saeed Jalili are openly questioning whether Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is even alive.
According to reports, they are demanding a verified voice recording from him before accepting any orders issued in his name—while accusing elements within the regime and the Revolutionary Guards of staging a quiet coup and forging directives.
The crisis follows the February 2026 elimination of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the controversial appointment of his son as successor.
Since taking power, Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public, fueling widespread speculation. Some reports claim he was severely wounded in the strike that killed his father and is unconscious in a hospital in Qom. Others suggest he is still running the country remotely through audio communications due to his condition.
