One of your editor’s favorite travel games is asking people a simple question: How many Jews are there in the world? The answers range wildly. Sixty million is a common guess. Sometimes more. Sometimes much more.
That misunderstanding, on its own, isn’t alarming. Most people don’t need to know global Jewish demographics to live their lives. Ignorance is common, not malicious.
But when Joe Rogan, the world’s most influential podcaster with roughly 60 million followers across platforms, floats the idea that there might be a billion Jews on Earth — that’s not harmless trivia anymore. That’s a problem.
Spoiler: There are about 15.8 million Jews worldwide. Roughly 0.2% of humanity.
