Israel Railways announced the opening of a locomotive driver course intended for women only, upon completion of which the female drivers will be integrated into the passenger train fleet.
“This is as part of encouraging the integration of women into the railway professions, and in anticipation of Women’s Day starting tomorrow,” said Israel’s Ministry of Transport and Road Safety.
The course is about a year long, with each stage serving as a screening stage in itself – so that at the end only the best will be trained.
As part of the course, trainees will be exposed to the innovative technologies and safety measures used by Israel Railways, the fleet of locomotives and cars in the passenger division and the freight division, and will also acquire the extensive professional knowledge required to operate the vehicle that is currently considered the cutting edge of public transportation in Israel.
Israel Railways is calling on women to apply for the new course as well as for additional technical positions that can be found on the Israel Railways website.
