Yesterday, the Emir of Qatar visited Tehran and met with, among others, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
During the meeting, the Iranian leader sent an implicit threat to the Gulf neighbor. "If we were in Qatar's place, we would ignore American pressure and respond to the demands of the other side," said Khamenei, hinting at his dissatisfaction with Qatar's failure to transfer $6 billion belonging to Iran that is in banks in Doha.
Although outwardly, relations between Doha and Tehran appear to be good, beneath the surface there is a rift between the two countries.
It is not only the failure to transfer the money from Qatar that annoys the Iranians, but also the fact that Qatar hosts the largest American air base in the region. The Iranians also believe that Qatar is producing gas from a field located in Iran's economic waters.
