While estimates for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip range between 50 and 70 billion dollars – compared to Syria, this is "small money."
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa said this week in an interview that the cost of rebuilding his country is estimated between 600 and 900 billion dollars. He called on the international community to mobilize for Syria's reconstruction after 14 years of failing to stop the civil war, according to him.
It is unclear what al-Sharaa bases these estimates on – whether on an assessment made on the ground? Whether this figure also includes the establishment of development projects? The total investment opportunities in the "new" Syria?
Al-Sharaa's solutions... More than anything, it seems like an attempt to amplify the damage figures to stir the international community since he probably understands that attention is largely focused on Gaza's reconstruction efforts.
