Col. (res.) Dr. Jacques Neriah of the Jerusalem Center for Foreign Affairs and Security says the recent Beepers operation against Hezbollah was not only a crushing blow to the group’s leadership and infrastructure, but also a geopolitical game changer.
He argues it has opened a rare window in which Israel can impose new rules in the north.
According to Neriah, talks are underway on a security arrangement with Syria based on renewing the 1974 disengagement accord.
If successful, he says, Syria could effectively become a buffer between Israel and Iran, while Israel maintains temporary control over strategic outposts captured in December 2024. Still, he warns that despite the current momentum, Iran is tightening its grip on Lebanon, and the threat has not disappeared.
