Iran is attempting to expand its negotiations with the US beyond the nuclear issue and sanctions relief, linking any future agreement to developments in Lebanon, the Persian Gulf and other regional arenas.
According to Israeli assessments, Tehran is trying to revive the principle of “unity of the fronts” after its network of terrorist proxies suffered severe blows. Iran now argues that the different battlefields cannot be separated and that any regional settlement must address them together.
Lebanon has become a central bargaining chip in this strategy. Iran views Hezbollah as a critical strategic asset and considers Israeli efforts to weaken the terrorist organization or restrict its activities part of a broader campaign against Iranian influence.
The IRGC recently declared that a ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon, is a central condition for ending the war with the US. Tehran is also demanding that Israel withdraw from territory it controls inside Lebanon.
