Getting closer to conflict with Iran over gas in the Gulf

In what appears to be the next possible point of friction between the Gulf states and Iran, companies from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait signed today a memorandum of understanding for the joint development of the A-Dara gas field in the waters of the Persian Gulf.

The signing was held in the presence of the oil ministers of the two Arab countries. Today's memorandum follows the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries earlier this year.

The Iranians claim that the field they call Arash also belongs to them, but so far they have rejected all the calls of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to conduct negotiations on the maritime borders that would determine the rights to the field.
