WATCH: Jerusalem—the city at the heart of Israel’s history
On June 7, 1967, during the Six-Day War, Israeli forces captured East Jerusalem from Jordan. This marked the first time in nearly 2,000 years—since the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE—that the entire city came under Jewish/Israeli sovereignty.
We are the IDF. Our purpose is to preserve the State of Israel, to protect its independence, and to stop its enemies from disrupting everyday life for Israel's citizens and residents.
