China: We 'repelled' US destroyer in South China Sea
The Chinese military announced that it had “repelled” the U.S. destroyer Higgins after it allegedly entered China’s territorial waters in the South China Sea without government authorization.

Beijing claimed the vessel’s actions violated Chinese sovereignty and warned against further “provocative” operations in the area.
According to China’s statement, naval and air forces were deployed to track and warn the destroyer until it left the contested waters.
The United States has not yet issued a response, and the incident adds to ongoing tensions over freedom of navigation operations in the South China Sea.
