Nadim Koteich, General Manager of Sky News Arabia, a pan-Arab television channel, is a Shi’ite Lebanese journalist known for opposing Hezbollah and Iran, wrote in Asharq Al-Awsat that both Hamas and Hezbollah must be disarmed immediately, as their weapons have brought only destruction to Gaza and Lebanon.
He argued that continued debate over disarmament is irrational after the recent wars exposed how these militias’ “insanity” devastated both peoples.
Koteich wrote that Gaza now lies under 55 million tons of rubble, with tens of thousands killed or injured, and reconstruction expected to cost more than $70 billion. He stressed that Hamas’s and Hezbollah’s weapons — supposedly for “resistance” — are in fact the main cause of endless suffering and economic collapse. In Lebanon, Hezbollah’s unchecked power has crippled national recovery, dragging the country into conflicts that serve no Lebanese interest.
He added that both groups have turned their weapons from “existential tools of resistance” into bargaining chips. Hezbollah now ties disarmament to Israel’s withdrawal from Shebaa Farms, while Hamas demands a sovereign state in exchange for its arsenal. These shifts, he said, expose their strategic defeat: the “burden” of their arms outweighs any ideological purpose.
