German security services have foiled a planned Islamist terror attack targeting a Christmas market in Bavaria. Authorities arrested five suspects — three Moroccan nationals, one Egyptian, and one Syrian — before the attack could be carried out.
According to initial reports, the suspects were in advanced stages of planning and were under surveillance prior to their arrest.
The operation was carried out by German counterterror units amid heightened security across the country during the Christmas season. Investigators are examining potential links to Islamist extremist networks and assessing whether additional suspects or international connections are involved. No injuries were reported, and officials stressed that the arrests prevented a potentially mass-casualty attack.
