The Russian armed forces have established observation posts on the border between Syria and Israel to monitor the Golan Heights under Israeli control - according to the Arabic-language news website Defens Arabich, which focuses on military news.
Yesterday, November 29, 2023, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling on Israel to withdraw from the Golan Heights, according to a reporter from the TASS news agency.
91 countries voted in favor of the proposal, including Russia, Brazil, India, China and Saudi Arabia. Eight countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, voted against the resolution. 62 countries abstained from voting.
A group of countries participated in the drafting of the resolution, including Algeria, Venezuela, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, North Korea, Cuba, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, the United Arab Emirates, Syria and Tunisia.
The document contains eight instructions. The first states that Israel has so far failed to implement the UN Security Council resolution from 1981, declaring the cancellation of Israeli annexation.
In addition, the document "calls again on Israel to withdraw from the entire occupied Syrian Golan until the June 4, 1967 line, while implementing the relevant Security Council resolutions."
The document also states that "the continued occupation and actual annexation of the Syrian Golan is a stumbling block on the way to achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region."
