Iran has reportedly transferred prisoners from Evin Prison to facilities operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in what sources describe as an attempt to use detainees as human shields amid ongoing military pressure on the regime.
According to the reports, inmates were moved from the notorious Tehran prison to IRGC-controlled bases and sensitive security sites. The alleged objective is to deter further strikes by placing civilian detainees in and around strategic assets, effectively turning them into protective buffers for regime infrastructure.
Evin Prison has long been associated with the incarceration of political dissidents, dual nationals, journalists and regime critics. The transfer of these prisoners to military-linked compounds significantly increases the risk to their lives, especially as tensions in the region continue to escalate.
The use of civilians as human shields is widely condemned under international law. If confirmed, the move would underscore the regime’s willingness to endanger its own citizens in order to safeguard its military capabilities and leadership.
