Sgt. Liat Ben-Ami was killed in a bus-bombing

The bereaved sister described Liat as a "true feminist breakthrough" who was very loved by all those she was in contact with - and always pushed forward:"

She wanted us to know that anything is possible."

The late Liat Ben-Ami was born in Haifa in 1982. On October 21, 2002, she was killed in a terrorist attack at the Karkur junction, near her base. The bus exploded, 14 Israelis were killed, including Liat.

"Liat was a girl who set goals for herself - and achieved them," says Adva, "a real breakthrough, at a time when it was even less common for women to be a fighter."

But, and perhaps even more inspiring, was Liat who wanted to share her success with others, who loved to see those who fought and fought alongside her. In the NCO course she was in, she was supposed to receive two honors, but asked to share them, and give to another soldier who was with her in the course the honors; "she wanted to empower others."

What a terrible loss. It’s one thing to lose your life fighting the enemy face-to-face then by cowardly tactics of the enemy.
