The US may have attacked the nuclear facilities in Iran, but when it comes to neighboring Turkey, the US is actually interested in developing and investing in the nuclear industry.
According to a senior American official, financing agencies from his country are expressing interest in investing in small modular reactors (SMRs) in Turkey.
Justin Friedman, an adviser to the US State Department, explained last week that these agencies are waiting for concrete proposals regarding the investment needed for the Turkish reactors.
He added: "We are waiting for the projects to be announced so that we can raise appropriate financing for them." He made the remarks on the sidelines of the 11th Nuclear Power Plants Summit in Istanbul, which was held on July 1-2, 2025.
