US Ambassador to Ireland Edward Walsh has delivered unusually blunt criticism of Dublin’s political establishment, accusing Irish politicians of engaging in empty “political stunts” against Israel that could damage Ireland’s relationship with Washington.
Walsh warned that proposed Irish legislation targeting trade connected to Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria would accomplish little while creating serious economic and diplomatic consequences for Ireland.
He also criticized efforts to boycott Israel, including political pressure surrounding sporting events involving Israeli teams.
The ambassador dismissed repeated attacks on President Donald Trump and US policy by senior Irish figures, arguing that such rhetoric does not represent the deep historic ties between the American and Irish peoples.
