President Donald Trump declared that the United States is taking control of the Strait of Hormuz, saying Washington will dominate the vital shipping route and receive payment for securing it.

“We will be the ones controlling Hormuz. We will get paid for it,” Trump said.

The president described Iran’s leaders as highly skilled negotiators but insisted that Tehran received nothing from him.
