The European Union border agency known as “Frontex” announced the decrease in the number of illegal immigrants to this political bloc in 2024.
According to the latest report of this agency, published on Tuesday, January 15, in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, the attempt to illegally cross the borders of this union last year decreased by a total of 38% compared to the previous year, 2023.
This is the lowest number of illegal immigrants since 2021. In that year, the extensive restrictions caused by the Corona pandemic, including the closure of borders, greatly reduced the number of illegal immigrants.
In its latest report, Frontex cited a key and effective factor in reducing immigrants. According to this institution, “the seriousness of the members of the European Union and its partners in combating human trafficking networks has led to a significant reduction in the illegal crossing of the borders of this Union.”
According to this report, unauthorized crossing of the western borders of the Union in the Balkan region experienced a decrease of 78% in 2024.
