Hezbollah’s central financial institution, Al-Qard al-Hassan, is now confronting sweeping operational restrictions as the US intensifies pressure aimed at choking off the terrorist organization’s funding networks.
According to Lebanese outlet Al-Modon, sources confirm that the group is preparing for major structural changes that would strip the institution of banking-like functions. Services such as check issuance and ATM withdrawals may soon be halted, shifting the organization into a limited role focused solely on social assistance.
The measures follow increasing pressure from a US Treasury delegation demanding that the Lebanese government revoke Al-Qard al-Hassan’s authorization. Washington made clear that failure to act will trigger sanctions on Lebanese entities that continue enabling Hezbollah’s finances.
A Beirut-based financial expert told The New Arab that these steps are part of a broader plan “to dismantle Al-Qard al-Hassan entirely.” Reports last month indicated the institution was given a three-month deadline to settle its obligations with clients before permanent closure—though these claims have not been independently verified.
