ISIS terrorists carried out a combined shooting and suicide-bombing attack against a Syrian Internal Security Forces post in Raqqa, northern Syria.
According to initial reports, two armed ISIS terrorists opened fire on the position. Security personnel shot and killed one attacker, while the second detonated the explosive belt he was wearing. Information regarding casualties among the Syrian forces has not yet been released.
The attack is part of a growing ISIS campaign against Syria’s new authorities. The terrorist organization declared earlier this year that it was entering a “new phase” of operations and has since increased attacks against Syrian army and internal security personnel, particularly in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor.
ISIS has also intensified recruitment efforts, focusing mainly on young men in Syria and Iraq. The renewed activity began approximately a month ago and is expected to escalate as the organization exploits security gaps, political instability and tensions between competing armed forces across the region.
